You can call it new urbanism, modern farmhouse design, or simple living. We like to think of it as life, well-lived. Every day in these parts is one part adventure, two parts community, and a massive dose of heart. We started this blog as a way to document our journey, make a few memories, and hopefully inspire a few others along the way.
We aren’t ranchers, cowboys, farmers, rugged, outdoorsy, or DIYers. We are good old fashion cityfolk. We believe in things like shopping malls, and easy to access organic grocery stores, nail salons and car repair shops–all of which are now over an hour away. But we’ve been living this life for almost three years now, and we wouldn’t trade it for all the conveniences in the world.
We homeschool our family full time. Yes, there is an amazing local school. We’ll write about our decision to homeschool, at least for this year, more in the future. Whitney has a degree in, and passion for, interior design. David is considering adventuring into real estate, another passion we both share. We’re both interested in marketing, and this blog was a way for us to marry our interests and passions and create a project we could both work on in our spare time. And, if we’re honest, we’re open to it if it starts to provide a small income for our family.
We wanted this blog to be about the conversations we have on front porches around here–meaningful, rich, warm, comfortable. Maybe like the ones people used to have around the dinner table. We invite you to join in, either here, online, or in person, if you ever get to our neck of the woods.
Things that are important to us:
- our values
- community: we believe that community can be hard, but it is good, and so worth fighting for
- church, faith, living out what we believe
- home (and design and beauty)
- homeschooling (at least for this year!)
- FOOD, cooking, recipes, health
It is important for us to add that we started this as a family blog, a place to record our thoughts and passions about a place we love. These thoughts and opinions are our own, and do not necessarily represent everyone who lives or owns property in Carlton Landing.
Drop us a line if we can answer any questions!
