Designing a Town
The prospect of bringing up a town from scratch completely overwhelms me. However, there are individuals, blessed by God, to be able to lay out out a town in their brains, put it on paper, and then actually make it happen. Jim Hasenbeck is one of those people. He is fully committed to his firm in Oklahoma City, Studio Architecture, and his firm is fully committed to including the principles of New Urbanism in the development of the Town of Carlton Landing. So, we are big fans of Jim Hasenbeck! He is a warm and friendly man that usually has time to talk architecture, or New Urbanism, or how excited he is about wedding planning (his daughter is getting married next year, this is a joke). That is, when he is not holed up in his lake studio sketching beautiful homes or buildings for our little slice of heaven.
As the story goes, Jim was brought on in the beginning stages of designing this place, has been instrumental in making it happen, and continues to work alongside the developer to make sure the vision that was casted long ago is alive and well. His influence can be seen throughout the community from parks to houses and will be seen in the future development of the town center. He is the Town Architect, on the planning commission, and has a say in design/review of any home plan submitted to be built. So, if you really want to build a house here, be nice to Jim. I joke with him about dashing dreams, but honestly, he does work his magic in making your dream house a reality.
The Better Half
Behind every good man is a Southern Belle from Memphis. Jim has found his better half in Belinda. She is as sweet as the day is long, always willing to sit a while on the porch at chat, and a phenomenal hostess. They are the parents of two grown children and are impatiently waiting to be grand-parents. They met at Oklahoma State, where he learned to design houses and she learned how to make them pretty on the inside, a match made in heaven. As Belinda would say “practically perfect in every way”.
My family has had the honor to call Jim and Belinda neighbors for a couple of years. They are welcoming and kind to our kids and an influence like that is welcome, anytime, in our kids lives. We appreciate you Jim and Belinda! Thanks for being you and taking the time to give us a little peek into your lives.
PS- we are still working out the kinks on this video interview thing. Please forgive my looking at the floor, I will do better next time.
Jim couldn’t tell us how to find him on social media, but you can find his mug and bio on the Studio Architecture site. Take some time to look at the work they have done, very impressive. As always, if you have questions or would like more information about living in Carlton Landing, reach out to us through our Contact Page. Thank you, very much, for taking the time to watch!
