If you plan to be in Carlton Landing this weekend, you are in for a treat! Fall weekends in Carlton Landing can be just as eventful as the Spring or Summer, just with different activities that usually include food, wine, fire, and Christmas decorations!
Bring your warm clothes and prepare to dress in layers, the days will be around 50 for highs and get down right cold at night with lows in the low 30’s. Currently, there is no chance of rain, so the kiddos can run rampant and wear themselves out!
Lace ‘em up
The 2nd Annual Jingle Bell Run will start the busy day on Saturday morning December 9th at 8:30am. Sign up to run in the 5k or the 1 mile fun run through part road and trail by the lake. The race host team has laid out a challenging course that will test your readiness and allow you to be distracted by taking in the beautiful scenery of Carlton Landing on Lake Eufuala. Santa Clause will be around to direct traffic and cheer you on to the finish line and crazy characters have been known to run right along with you. If you have a crazy costume and it’s running friendly, wear it! It’s a fun time to get your steps in and support Carlton Landing Academy.
You are welcome to register the morning of the race at the Carlton Landing Community Church Tent and plan to hang out the rest of the day!
After the run, walk off your jelly legs at the Holiday Pop-up Shops located at the end of the Boardwalk and right by the Start/Finish line. Peruse the great offerings of local retailers and craftsmen and search for the perfect Christmas gift. The shops will open at 10:00 and remain open until 1:00pm.
Throughout the day, Food Trucks will be around to keep you fed. As of this posting, Mama Tigs Pizza, Taylor-Made-Barbecue, and Frigid Whips have committed to coming. Mama Tigs is a no brainer, great pizza! Taylor-Made is always busy, but I have yet to try it, and Frigid Whips will go the opposite of it’s name with Wassail (I had to look this one up, too!) and treats to get you in the Christmas spirit.
We will update this post, as needed, if anything changes.
Holiday Home Tour
After your morning run, loosen up those legs and see some beautiful homes at the same time. The Holiday Home Tour will start at 1pm and maps can be found at 74 Ridgeline Road. Santa and the Mrs. may make an appearance, so dress your kids for a photo op! The home tour is an annual event and a great opportunity to see the homes available to buy or private homes the residents are nice enough to open up for us to walk through. No need to sign up, just show up!
So, while you are taking in the home tour, stop by 27 Firefly and visit David’s Open House from 1-3pm. He will have some Christmas goodies and some good mulled cider. This home is beautiful and the only home currently available on Firefly Park. This greenbelt park is a community in itself and the best front yard you could ever ask for, all enjoyment, no maintenance.
Artisan Trades Homes, Hope for Architecture, and Front Porch Family Realty Co. are pleased to bring a little warmth into your Saturday night. All this to benefit the Carlton Landing Volunteer Fire Department. Donations will be accepted to help build a permanent home for the CLFD. Clay Chapman, with Artisan Trades Homes, has been piling up his scrap wood to form a VERY LARGE bonfire in the middle of The Borough, his pocket neighborhood located at the top of Boardwalk and Red Bud Lane. The plan is to light this thing up at “dark-thirty” and start the Christmas season off with some music and book reading for the kids! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and favorite beverage. Front Porch Family Realty Co. will provide the fixings, skewers, and everything else you need for some good old fashioned S’mores.
We believe in taking every opportunity to promote and participate in “community” and this will be a great time to meet new neighbors or catch up with old friends. All are welcome! No RSVP is required, just head that way after the sun goes down.
Carlton Landing Community Church meets every Sunday morning at 10am. This Sunday, The Fishers of Men worship team are back and we will enjoy the second of three lessons from Andy Stanley on “Who Needs Christmas?”. Part one was a good reminder of WHY we have Christmas and the fastest swing through the Old Testament I’ve ever heard. What better way to top off the weekend stay in Carlton Landing than a heart warming, thought provoking hour with your new community. We meet in the big white tents at the end of the Boardwalk. Click here for our handy dandy map.
If you are new to Carlton Landing, join us! Find a cottage for rent or come for the day. There will be plenty to do, see, and eat! We look forward to seeing you this weekend in Carlton Landing.
